Word Knowledge practice test
The meaning of words, and the words that mean the same thing.
Word Knowledge tests vocabulary. A question gives you a word and asks you to pick the option closest in meaning, or to pick the word that best fits a sentence. The words range from everyday to the kind you meet in school and in technical writing. The bank here covers the concepts most often tested, including common roots, prefixes and suffixes, so you can work out an unfamiliar word from its parts rather than memorising every word in the language. Each question is original and written for this site, with a one-line explanation of the correct answer. This is one of the four subtests that feed the AFQT.
